Šabac, July 11th, 2018

Training on WWTP planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance was organized in Šabac today including site visit to one of the most contemporary wastewater treatment plants.

The representatives of municipal administration and PUCs from Loznica, Pančevo, Kraljevo, Brus and Blace as well as representatives of the Ministry of European Integration had an opportunity to see WWTP in operation and to familiarize themselves with the infrastructure of modern plant built by EU standards. The participants were presented with all infrastructure elements of the plant, but also with the operational challenges those complex systems are facing after completion of construction.

Upon visit of WWTP Šabac, EU PPF6 team of experts introduced the processes of planning, design and construction of WWTP type of infrastructure and later discussed specific cases from good practice.

The City of Šabac is one of only three cities in Serbia that have wastewater treatment plants. This project implemented in many phases was funded by the EU with 10million euro and the Republic of Serbia and City of Šabac participated with 8 million euro.

The WWTP plant, found on the location of the tin mill plant, after one-year trial period, is in full operation from April 2017. In this regard, Šabac, Sombor and Subotica are the only cities in Serbia with wastewater management. For the City of Šabac, construction of this WWTP generates double environmental benefit and significance both for protection of the environment and improvement of the quality of life of the citizens.
