Belgrade, 21st December 2017

Today in Belgrade the first EU PPF8 Steering Committee meeting was held at the premises of the Ministry of European Integration. The meeting was attended by the EU PPF8 SC members, namely the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia (EUD) as the Contracting Authority, Ministry of European Integration as the Beneficiary, as well as the EU PPF8 team representatives.

The meeting addressed the outstanding issues, as well as the significant activities performed during the Inception period on appraisal of 8 infrastructure sub-projects from the Single Project Pipeline (SPP). The results of this comprehensive appraisal process led to selection of 6 projects from the environment and transport sector for development of technical documentation:

  • Major Overhaul of Iron Gate Navigational Lock;
  • Modernization of Railway Velika Plana-Niš;
  • Modernization of Railway line Niš-Brestovac;
  • Remediation of Grand Bačka Canal;
  • Regional Wastewater System Užice;
  • Regional Waste Management System Kragujevac.

The priority projects in the environment and transport sectors were previously nominated by the line ministries and relevant Appraisal reports for the potential projects were prepared by the EU PPF8 experts’ team. Upon approval and submission of this final list of sub-projects from the line ministries, the EU PPF8 team has commenced with preparation of methodologies and technical documentation for each of the abovementioned project.

The Project Steering Committee will continue to have regular meetings to oversee the implementation of all project activities and review project progress towards the achievement of the project objectives.
